A Friend Who Walks With Me
Some of my favorite songs, even as a child, have a similar ring.
He walks with me, and He talks with me.
What a friend we have in Jesus.
Jesus loves me.
My dad wrote a song and would sing it to me “I have a Friend who walks with me.”
I can’t remember a moment in my life when I didn’t know—deep down—that Jesus loves me. Even as a child, I felt it. My favorite song was Jesus Loves Me, and honestly… it still is.
Jesus has always been my very best friend.
He tells me the truth when I’m being selfish.
He stays with me when my heart feels hurt or tired.
He loves me when the world feels loud or broken or upside down.
That’s why I love Advent so much.
Advent is the season when we remember that Jesus came to be with us.
Not far away.
Not waiting for us to get it all right.
But close. Gentle. Present.
I believe Jesus still comes to us today—
to moms who are worn out,
to kids who feel big emotions,
to families doing their best.
And here’s something I forget sometimes, but I’m learning again:
God loves using imperfect people.
People like me.
People like you.
Even with my flaws and messy moments, Jesus chooses to work through me. And that means something beautiful is true:
If I am a gift God uses to bless others, then You are a gift God placed in this world.
And so is your child.
My prayer this Advent is simple—that as Jesus fills us with His love, joy, peace, and hope, we learn to pour that love out into our homes and into the world.
He came once.
He comes to us still.
And He will come again.
Come, Lord Jesus. 🤍
“I Have A Friend Who Walks With Me” (My Dad’s Song)
Dennis Connor 1980
[Verse 1]
I have a friend who walks with me and I'll never have to walk alone He's my friend and our love will never end, he's a wonderful, wonderful friend to me When I get up in the morning every day, he's right there to greet me Or on my way to school or play, he's right there to keep me
[Chorus] And oh what fun, living every day with God's son He's with me in the rain or sun, just think of all the wonderful things he's done
[Verse 2] I have a friend who walks with me and I'll never have to walk alone He's my friend and our love will never end, he's a wonderful, wonderful friend to me
[Chorus] I have a friend who walks with me and I'll never have to walk alone He's my friend and our love will never end, he's a wonderful, wonderful friend to me Oh wonderful, wonderful friend to me Oh wonderful, wonderful friend to me
